30 Taliban militants killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: At least 30 Taliban militants have been killed and 14 injured in various Afghanistan provinces in the last 24 hours, the country's interior ministry said Saturday morning.
'The police backed by the army and the Coalition forces have conducted series of operations in Helmand, Uruzgan, Logar and Ghazni provinces during the past 24 hours which left 30 armed militants dead,' Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.
The militants were killed by Afghan national police backed by the army and NATO-led troops, it added.

The Taliban were yet to make any comment in this regard.

Pinarayi, VS meet
Kozhikode: In the midst of a verbal battle, CPM state secretray Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandhan had a meeting at the Kozhikode Guest House on Saturday morning. Pinarayi visited VS in his room along with Kozhikode district secretary T P Ramakrishnan for only about 3 minutes.
SIT issues notice to Mani;Pinarayi says it is illegal
Thodupuzha: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing CPI(M) Idukki district secretary M.M. Mani's statement that the CPM had eliminated party's adversaries according to a list prepared by it, has issued notice to him to appear before it for interrogation. The notice was issued to M M Mani's house and CPM Idukki district commitee office. The notice was issued as Mani had not reacted to their earlier notice. The notice demanded Mani to appear before the DySP office at Thodupuzha at 9 am on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the SIT notice to Mani at his home and party office was a wrong move. He termed it illegal. This is an example to show how the home ministry is using the police to do illegal things. This will be dealt politically and legally, Pinarayi said.

Another case booked against Kareem
Vadakara: Another case has been booked against CPM state secretariat member Elamaram Kareem for intimidating a police officer. The Vadakara police booked a case against Kareem for threatening ASI Ramachandran Nair who is member of the special investigation team probing the T P Chandrashekaran case. 
Kareem had accused at a DYFI meet that it was ASI Ramachandran Nair who had captured in photo the party symbol tattooed on the hand of the accused in the T P Murder case and distributed it to mediamen. Following this Ramachandran Nair had filed a petition to the Vadakara police stating threat to his life. Based on this Kerala police booked a case under Act 117 (E).
Police had earlier booked a case against Kareem for threatening a police officer of the SIT, DySP Santhosh.

Marines produced in court, case posted to June 18
Kollam : A local court today posted to June 18 trial of the 'Enrica Lexie' case in which two Italian marines have been charged with shooting dead two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast on February 15.
The marines Latore Massimilliano and Salvatore Girone were produced in the district and Sessions Court today whenthe case came up before Sessions Judge P D Rajan.

The court directed the state government to provide a list of interpreters before the next sitting to translate courtproceedings into Italian for the benefit of the accused.

It also asked the prosecution to provide copies of the charge sheet to the two marines, as sought by them.
The First Class Magistrate Court here, where the case was initially considered, had a few days ago issued a committalwarrant for transferring the case to the Sessions Court for trial.

The marines, engaged for security of the Italian vessel, were arrested on February 19 for opening fire and killingfishermen Jalestine and Ajesh Binki, who had ventured into the sea from nearby Neendakara in a fishing boat with nine others.
The marines have been under custody since then, mostly in the Central Prison at Thiruvananthapuram before being moved toBorstal School at Kochi a few days ago.

The Kerala High Court had on May 30 granted them bail with stringent conditions, but they were yet to come out of
detention after fulfilling the conditions. PTI

VS met K K Rama, wife of slain RMP leader TP Chandrashekaran, who broke down with folded hands on seeing VS. He also expressed his condolences to TP's mother, TP's son Abhinand and other relatives who were present in the house. However, after meeting the wife of T P Chandrashekaran, VS refused to reveal the details of the meeting to mediapersons.
VS had a close door meeting with Rama for about an hour. RMP area secretary N Venu was also present. Apart from them, TP's son, Rama's parents were only present. After the meeting, VS laid floral tributes to TP in the place where he was laid to rest. He also visited TP's unfinished house before returning.
Native people, on hearing the news of VS visit, flocked TP's house. Infact, the crowd was overflowing and the vehicle carrying VS had to stop a few metres away from the house.It is learnt that VS visit, in all probability, will accentuate divisions in the CPI(M).
It was after Pinarayi Vijayan and PB member S Ramachandra Pillai who visited VS at the Kozhikode guest guest that VS left for Onchiyam to TP's house.
VS refused to speak to mediapersons who were waiting before the guest house to get his reaction. It is learnt that Pinarayi and team had met VS at the guest house only to tell VS to avoid the Onchiyam visit.
