State-wide bus strike from Sunday midnight

Kozhikode: Private bus employees will go on a State-wide indefinite strike from Sunday midnight onwards.
The coordination committee of motor trade unions decided to go on strike demanding revision in payment.
The bus employees are demanding, among other things, service benefits and 50 percent hike in payment.
The existing pay package is decided in 2008. Though bus fare was hiked twice during this period, bus owners did not consider the employees. Many of them are not even getting minimum wages. Faced with the spiralling prices of essential commodities, they were forced to look for other jobs for livelihood, said trade union representatives.
They urged the State government to intervene in the matter and compel the bus owners to accept the demands
