Bangalore-Chennai double-decker train to ply soon

Bangalore: The much-awaited air-conditioned double-decker train linking Bangalore and Chennai is set to debut this month.

Indian Railways have been operating double-deckers on three routes: Howrah-Dhanbad; New Delhi-Jaipur and Mumbai-Ahmedabad since 2011-12.

The Bangalore-Chennai service is expected to lure more passengers to take the train, rather than ride a bus on the 360-km route. The trip will take six hours.

'The double-decker train is on trial run for a fortnight, and its operations are being fine-tuned in terms of safety, speed, halts and other technical parameters. Once we get statutory clearances, we will introduce the service before this month-end,' Bangalore division railway manager A.K. Agarwal told IANS.

Bitty Mohanty to be taken to Rajasthan Tuesday

Kannur : Bitti Mohanty, who jumped parole after his conviction for raping a German woman in 2006 and is currently lodged in a Kerala jail following his arrest, will be taken to Rajasthan Tuesday, police said Monday.

The son of a former top police officer, Bitti will be taken to Rajasthan for questioning in a case of impersonation registered against him, a police official told IANS.

The official added that later in the day police will request the court, which remanded Bitty to two weeks of judicial custody Saturday, to grant them his custody.

'We have drawn up three separate police teams to travel to Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Bitty will be first taken to Rajasthan where he jumped parole in 2006. If need be, he will be taken to the other two states,' said the official, who did not wish to be identified.

The police team taking Bitti to Rajasthan is expected to travel by train as they could not get a connecting flight from Mangalore airport.

Bitti is the son of B.B. Mohanty, a former director general of police in Odisha. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in 2006 for raping a 26-year-old German woman in Alwar. He jumped parole the same year and had been on the run ever since.

In Kerala, Bitti was picked up by police Friday after the State Bank of Travancore, where he had been working as a probationary officer, raised doubts about his identity.

He secured the job using the name Raghav Raj and had documents that showed he hails from Andhra Pradesh.

Police said that Bitti has been identified, but his identity should be proven scientifically in the court, and for that Bitti and his father are likely to undergo a DNA test.

B.B. Mohanty was accused of aiding his son's escape and was suspended but later reinstated. He retired in 2012.

Bitty's Kannur life in a secluded room

Kottakal: Bitty Mohanty, who jumped parole in 2006 after being convicted for raping a German woman, lived a life in a secluded room like a prison in Kannur. He never spoke to anyone and only answered in monosyllables. According to his college mates in Chinmaya Institute of Technology, Chala, they haven't met a student like Raghav Rajan aka Bitty as he does not hang out with friends and was also not spotted with classmates for any kind of chatting. He never spoke to anyone and used to travel from and to college in the college vehicle only.

When he joined as bank official in Kannur, he never informed the news to his classmates. One day when one of his classmates spotted him in a bank, he informed others. He tried to avoid those who attempted to contact him. Raghav who ran away from jail in Odisha created a jail around himself in Kerala too. He usually wore round glass, which covered his face somewhat partially and wore only white dress. Due to his unique dressing style his classmates called him `Grasshopper'. He was very matured while talking and his classmates always doubted over his behavior. Raghav was a bright student too and used to clear doubts of fellow students. If he sees someone observing him or trying to understand him, he distances from them. Of the 84 students in class, Raghav was the only one outside Kerala. Raghav is well versed in English and Hindi and used to present seminars in an impeccable manner.
