Delhi Police seek details of Sreesanth seizures

New Delhi : Delhi Police Thursday contacted their counterparts in Mumbai seeking details about the articles seized from the hotel where tainted cricketer S. Sreesanth stayed, said a police official.

The official said they have asked Mumbai police's Crime Branch to provide them details about the CCTV footage of the hotel where Sreesanth stayed, which was different from where the rest of his Rajasthan Royals inmates were staying.

In a written letter to their Mumbai counterparts, Delhi Police also sought to be provided some other articles of Sreesanth like his laptop and mobile phone which were recovered from the hotel.

According to the official, Sreesanth was residing in Hotel Sofitel after being suspended from team for fighting with coach Paddy Upton for dropping him from the team after May 9 Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Police claim that this was one in which he indulged in spot-fixing.

'He consumed alcohol and fought with the coach after he was dropped from the team after the May 9 match. For this, he was suspended from the team. That was why he was not staying in Hotel Trident where other players were staying. He separately booked into Hotel Sofitel,' the official said.

Sensex down 51 points in early trade on profit-booking

MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday fell by nearly 51 points in early trade as funds and retail investors booked profits after recent gains, amid a mixed trend in other Asian markets.

The 30-share barometer declined by 50.84 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 20,162.12. The index had gained 521.29 points in the previous two sessions.

Stocks of metal, capital goods, auto, IT and banking sectors were major losers largely on profit-booking.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 18.50 points, or 0.30 per cent, to 6,128.25.

Brokers said selling, mostly of a profit-booking nature, by funds after two sessions of gains amid a mixed trend on other Asian bourses, mainly influenced the trading sentiment here.

In the Asian region, Japan’s Nikkei Index was down 1.42 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index up 0.31 per cent in early trade.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.40 per cent to close at new all-time in yesterday’s trade.

IPL rocked by arrest of Sreesanth, 2 others for spot-fixing

.New Delhi : In a sensational development, Indian paceman S Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested by the Delhi police on the charges of spot fixing in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

The special cell of the Delhi police arrested Sreesanth from his friend's place in Mumbai while the other two
cricketers were arrested last night from the team hotel at Nariman Point for their alleged role in spot fixing.

The arrest took place immediately after the players returned to their team hotel, following their match against
Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium. The hosts won by 14 runs.

The Delhi police source said that these players were under the scanner for their role in spot fixing in some of the
earlier IPL match although they did not elaborate which matches were under scrutiny.

The police have also arrested seven bookies in Mumbai and three bookies in Delhi in connection with the same case. They
are looking for two more bookies in Delhi.

The development comes as a shock for the IPL authorities who have time and again grappled with controversies and
scandals ever since the league was launched in 2008.

IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said he was awaiting details on the incident.

Rajasthan Royals CEO Raghu Iyer said that the three players were picked up by Delhi police last night and the team
management was co-operating with the investigation.

'Rajasthan Royals has zero tolerance for corruption and we will take action, if charges are proved,' he said. PTI
