Kerala facing possibility of drought’.
Thiruvananthapuram: Weather experts have said that if the state does not get sufficient rains even in August the possibility of drought cannot be ruled out.

They said that the lack of rain in the state is because of the monsoon winds changing direction. A phenomenon in the Arabian sea made these winds deviate from their usual direction resulting in low rainfall, they said.

Kerala got just 45 per cent of its usual rain. Although the phenomenon affected the weather in Kerala, it did not affect the monsoon in northern India, which is experiencing a good rainy season.

Agriculture and hydro-electric sectors are facing severe crisis. Kerala may be staring at drought  if the state does not get a satisfactory amount of rainfall in August, experts say..
