Kochi: The
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered cases against two
Customs officials and began investigation into their role in the case relating
to smuggling of 20 kg of gold bars from Dubai to Kochi recently.
Cases were registered against two officers, including Deputy Commissioner C Madhavan, who was earlier posted at Nedumbassery airport. The investigating agency also raided their residences in the evening. Customs Commissioner K N Raghavan told PTI that the case was handed over to the CBI.
Prime accused in the case Fayas, who was arrested by the Customs officials from Delhi airport last week, had named the two officials during investigation. In the biggest gold haul from an Indian airport, Customs officials seized 20 kg of gold bars from two women passengers who arrived from Dubai last week. The two had cleared the green channel and they were about to leave from airport when they were arrested. Four persons have so far been arrested in the case.
Fayas remanded till Oct 1
Meanwhile, the Judicial remand of Fayas was extended to October one by Additional CJM (Economic offences).
Fayas also handed over a written complaint to the Magistrate alleging custodial torture by Customs officials.
