KOTTAYAM: Some girls wish to lead a lavish life during their college days. They need to make good money for that. Some of them are ready to go to any extend to find money for their extravaganza. A recent report suggest these girls have been resorting an innovative method to make money.
Surrogate mothers already exist in Kerala but the above girls would go a step even further. Believe it or not, they sell their ovum to make money. This business has been going on in Thiruvanathapuram and Kochi covertly for the past one-and-half years. “But that apprehension over the deal is no more there. Now girls have come out to do the ovum business in a bold manner as they would do any other reputed business,” says sources from hospitals. The girls charge anything between Rs 5000 and Rs 10000 for ovum sale.
The girls who lead in the business are those from women’s college. Girls who go to other states for studies are also reported to have been in the business to generate pocket money, fees for hostel etc. Agents are also in the filed in search of prospective donors for people who are undergoing infertility treatment. They pocket lakhs of money in the business, often keeping the donors in the dark, say sources.
However one reason for solace is that by donating ovum, nothing damaging happens to the donor’s health. Moreover, the whereabouts about a donor are kept a closely guarded secret. This is also another factor which lures more students into the business.
