NEW DELHI: The centre has not permitted a hospital similar to AIIMS
for Kerala. Instead it will be set up in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab,
Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Meantime, in his budget speech,
Jaitley said the National Institute of Speech & Hearing (NISH) in
Thiruvananthapuram will be elevated to a university. Dr Harsh Vardhan,
who was the health minister, had promised to permit AIIMS for Kerala.
The centre did not consider Kerala’s demand for IIT. The one announced is for Karnataka. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will be established in Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh. An institution equal to AIIMs will be started in Bihar.
