ULLOOR: A youth, who tried to commit suicide while in police custody,
died here Thursday. He has been identified as Shai (41) of Kulathoor. He
died early 2.30 am this morning. The Thumba police arrested him three
days before on a suspicion of a chain theft. A hartal is being observed
in Pazhaya Attipra Panchayat in protest against the incident.
IG Manoj Abraham will probe the incident. More cops have been deployed in front of the Thumba station to avoid any untoward incidents.
He tried to commit suicide at the women’s bathroom on February 24. He was soon admitted at the medical college hospital. His condition was serious when taken to the hospital.
Shaji, who spoke to his relatives yesterday, told them that he was beaten cruelly.
He leaves behind his wife Sheeba and children Vishnu and Vichithra. Inquest was conducted in the presence of RDO.
