Five killed in jeep-lorry collision

 KASARGOD: Five persons were killed when a cruiser jeep proceeding to Karnataka from Palakkad collided with a goods lorry going to Kochi. Eight sustained serious injuries. The accident happened Monday morning at 5.50 am in front of the Mangalpady Primary Health Centre. Three women and two men from Thalappadi K C Road, Ullal, Uchila Ajinadukka and Thoominadu are among the dead.

The dead has been identified as Imtiaz (40), Mushtaq (41), natives of Ullal Mukkacheri, Azma (30), Befthima (70) of Thoominadu and Nazeema (36) of Thalapadi K C Road. The condition of Souda injured in the accident is stated to be very serious. A total of 13 including women and children were in the jeep.  Seven including children seriously injured has been admitted at a private hospital in Manguluru. Hospital sources said three children are out of danger.

The accident happened when the goods lorry holding national permit proceeding to Kochi from Manguluri collided with the jeep going to Karnataka. Initial reports say the accident happened when the tyre of the lorry burst. Those stranded in the jeep were taken out by the local residents and the fire force from Uppala. Transportation in the area was disrupted for hours. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of Mangalpady Hospital.
