. TP murder: Old friend turns betrayer
Kozhikode: It was his old colleague in the party who betrayed RMP leader TP Chandrasekharan. Onchiyam was shocked to hear that it was the CPM local committee member Padayankandy Raveendran who issued a death warrant in the form of an invitation letter to TP Chandrasekharan.
. Raveendran is an old friend of TP when he was in the CPM. They were close friends while working together for the party. Friends recollected that though TP left CPM they kept their relations intact.
Once TP had acted as a middleman to settle a dispute in which Raveendran was involved, says RMP activists.

So when such a friend came up with an invitation letter, TP would accept it wholeheartedly never doubting his evil intentions. TP never saw the quotation gang which was watching him from a distance when he accepted the letter.
SIT stated that Raveendran was to show the quotation gang the target. Inorder to do that Raveendran handed over the letter to TP to enable the gang identify the target.
Dipan, who was also held, was assigned the task of passing on the information about the moves of TP to Kodi Suni. When TP went to Vellikulangara from Orkattery at 10.05 pm, Dipan informed Kodi Suni. Dipan at that time was standing near Orakattery cooperative hospital.
At first SIT never had a doubt on Raveendran. He was trapped based on his mobile calls. When Dipan, Ramesh and Rejith were held, Raveendran's role was disclosed.
It is also said that Dipan followed TP for one whole day.

The four prime accused in the case, Kodi Suni, Payappadi Rafeeq, Muhammad Shafi and another person are still absconding.
The conspiracy was hatched a month back and weapons were brought well in advance. Suneesh from Kathiroor helped the accused to flee after the murder. After abandoning the Innova in Chokli, they escaped in an auto and two bikes.
SIT also stated that the accused collected SIM cards submitting fake documents. The accused used as many as 20 SIM cards. More probe is goin

Aviation ministry convenes meeting of recognised AI unions
With no end in sight to the pilots' strike that entered 10th day on Thursday, the civil aviation ministry has convened a meeting of all recognised trade unions of Air India next week to discuss issues relating to career progression and pay-scales. 'I am calling a meeting of all the recognised trade unions of Air India next week to discuss the career progression issues, including promotions also,' civil aviation minister Ajit Singh told reporters in New Delhi.
The move is aimed at checking further labour trouble and garnering support for the process of implementing the post-merger integration of Air India employees, as resentment is expected over salaries and career progression issues.
The Dharmadhikari Committee, which has recommended several measures on HR integration issues in post-merger Air India, is likely to be taken up for discussion at the meeting.
However, the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG), which has been de-recognised by the airline for leading the pilots' stir over similar issues, is not likely to be part of the discussion as only 'recognised' unions are being invited.
With the civil aviation minister offering to hold talks unconditionally and promising that the airline would not be vindictive, the IPG has also stated they were open to talks to resolve the deadlock, but wanted the sacking of 71 of their colleagues and its derecognition to be revoked

Chandy condemns cultural activists keeping mum over TP murder
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Oommen Chandy said cultural activists in Kerala who used to react even to small issues, are keeping silent over the brutal murder of TP Chandrasekaharan, which is really shameful. Such brutal murders would not be tolerated by the people of Kerala. Chandy also blamed Pinarayi Vijayan for not able to convince a leader to adhere to CPM stand. CPM failed in making its supporters stick to the party stand.
He said that it was not the UDF or the Congress which were accused of the murders of Jabbar in Kasargod, Afsal and Shukoor in Kannur. He said in Onchiyam, such gruesome incidents are being reported for the last four years.

Diabetes screening in schools, says Azad
New Delhi: Concerned over the increase in diabetes among children and adolescents, the union health ministry has initiated a school-based screening programme for diabetes on pilot basis in six districts in the country, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Wednesday.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Azad said that several studies have contributed to overwhelming evidence that indicates the increase in diabetes among children and adolescents.
The health ministry has initiated a school-based screening programme for diabetes on pilot basis in six districts - Nainital (Uttarakhand), Theni (Tamil Nadu), Nellore (Andhra Pradesh), Dibrugarh (Assam), Bhilwara (Rajasthan) and Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh), he said.

'Funds to each district have been released for the purpose. The screening is primarily focused on school children of 1st to 10th standards in the age group of 5 to 15 years. The screening programme is in progress in the above cited six districts,' he said.
Besides, the health ministry is running a School Health Programme (SHP) under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) specifically focused on school-going children and adolescents in the 6-18 years age group enrolled in government and government-aided schools.
With an estimated 50.8 million people, India has the world's largest diabetes population.

Hajj :Draw of lots on Monday
Karippur: The draw of lots for Hajj under the State Hajj Committee will take place at Karippur Hajj House at 11.30 am on Monday.
Minister PK Kunhalikutty will lead the draw of lots. The hajj committee received 49,429 applications. Among them, 49,403 are elders and 24 are children.
3,120 are in reserve category A and 4987 in reserve B category. Those above 70 years are in A category. Those who have not got a chance even after applying three times are in B category.
Though it was earlier reported that the applicants in these categories will get a chance without draw, this does not look feasible in Kerala.
A total of 8107 people come under this two categories but Kerala quota for Haj is only 6484. So draw of lot would take place in these categories along with General category.
