Temple watchman suspended for roughing up woman, son

Guruvayur: The Guruvayur Temple Managing Committee, on Friday, suspended a temple watchman for allegedly roughing up a woman devotee and pushing away her son.

A panel meeting presided over by the committee chairman T V Chandramohan, also suspended an overseer of the Guruvayur Electricity Section for his suspected role in leaking out of the CCTV visuals of the incident that happened on February 23.

The panel also decided to seek a police investigation on leak out of the CCTV visuals, taking it as a 'security lapse'.

The decision to suspend watchman V Radhakrishnan and overseer Anson was taken after the committee members viewed the clipping, beamed by local television channels yesterday.

The Deputy Administrator of the temple had been asked to submit a detailed report on the incident and explain the failure to report it promptly the same day.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Chandramohan said the temple board considered it as a serious incident since the primary duty of the temple employees was to help devotees worship without any hassles.

However, he said the impression being created that this sort of behaviour was rampant among the temple employees was painful.

The visuals showed the woman being pushed away by a temple guard. Her son was beaten up by the guards when he approached them, questioning the rough treatment meted out to his mother.

Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar had on Thursday sought a report on the incident from the temple authorities. PTI

Women-oriented films huge responsibility: Nayantara

Chennai: Actress Nayantara, who is gearing up for the release of southern remake of hit Hindi movie "Kahaani", says she usually doesn't like women-centric movies because they are too much of a responsibility for an artist.
Coming out Thursday, the remake has been titled "Anamika" in Telugu and "Nee Enge En Anbe" in Tamil.
"I usually don't like to do women-centric films because it's too much of a responsibility on your shoulders. Everything has to be correct but when I saw 'Kahaani' I thought this is one film, which I would want to do in south," Nayantara said in an audio statement.
She says "Anamika" is not a frame-to-frame copy of "Kahaani".
"If Kolkata was a character in 'Kahaani', old Hyderabad becomes an important character in the remake. A lot of changes have been done in the south adaptation. It will not be like a cut, copy and paste of the original," she said.
Nayantara has stepped into Vidya Balan's shoes in "Anamika", which has been directed by Sekhar Kammula. But unlike the original, she does not feature Nayantara as a pregnant woman in the remake.
Although Nayantara wanted to play the pregnant character, she says her director thought otherwise.
"It was completely Sekhar sir's call. From the very beginning, he didn't want the pregnancy part in the story and I was very scared about this because that was the main plot about the film. He wanted to make it even more challenging without the pregnancy part," she added.
A huge box office success, "Kahaani" also fetched Vidya critical acclaim and coveted awards, but Nayantara says she didn't do the remake for awards.
"I usually don't aim for any awards. When I'm doing a film, I do it with all heart. The reason I did the remake is because I really liked the script and I thought it will be like a nice suspense thriller. It's also a strong woman-oriented film," she said.
Not apprehensive about playing pregnant characters, she feels actresses should flexible.
"In 'Sri Rama Rajyam', I played a pregnant character through most of the film. I also have two kids who are about 10 years old. I don't think all this should stop an actress from doing a role because I believe we should be ready to do anything for a character."
In her opinion, "Anamika" is a "realistic film".
"When you will see the film, you'll realise how realistic it is... from the costumes to make up... we also shot in several real locations. All this makes it a very realistic film," she added.
Produced by Endemol India, "Anamika" also features Vaibhav Reddy, Harshvardhan Rane and Pasupathy in important roles.
On working with Kammula, she said: "He believes in more of reality and doesn't understand the commercial cinema. Since I've been a typical commercial films' heroine, I had my doubts about working with him, but it all changed after I started working with him."

Facebook adds anonymous login, in move to build trust

San Francisco: Facebook Thursday moved to bolster the trust of its more than one billion users by providing new controls on how much information is shared on the world's leading social network.
In a major shift away from the notion long preached by Facebook co-founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg of having a single known identity online, people will be able to use applications anonymously at Facebook.
The social network also provided a streamlined way for people to control which data applications can access and began letting people rein in what friends can do with shared posts at Facebook.
Zuckerberg announced the changes, along with moves to make Facebook a more stable platform for applications, at the social network's sold-out f8 developers conference.
"By giving people more power and control, they are going to trust all the apps we build more and over time use them more," Zuckerberg told an audience of about 1,700 conference attendees.
"That is positive for everyone." In a statement Facebook explained its new "Anonymous Login" as an easy way for people to try an app without sharing personal information from Facebook..
"People tell us they're sometimes worried about sharing information with apps and want more choice and control over what personal information apps receive," the company said. "Today's announcements put power and control squarely in people's hands."
In coming weeks, Facebook will also roll out a redesigned dashboard to give users a simple way to manage or remove third-party applications linked to their profiles at the social network.
"This is really big from a user standpoint," JibJab chief executive Gregg Spiridellis said of what he heard during the keynote presentation that opened the one-day Facebook conference.
"I think they are seeing people are scared. They realise that long-term, they need to be trusted."
A JibJab application that can sync with Facebook lets people personalise digital greeting cards with images of themselves or friends.
In a major move that promises to help application makers bring in more money and to further challenge Google for online marketing revenue, Facebook is expanding a test of putting its ad-targeting prowess to work for developers.
A Facebook Audience Network will what people share publicly about themselves and their interests to pinpoint marketing messages in third-party apps linked to Facebook on desktop computers or mobile devices.
