Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 1,723 Keralites have been brought back from Yemen following the fighting there but many more are yet to return, State Minister for Diaspora K.C.Joseph said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters here, he said two flights were leaving from Djibouti later Wednesday for India and another 600 Indians were waiting at the airport there to fly back.

"See, the biggest problem today is neither the Indian embassy there nor the centre or the state governments have any clue about the exact number of Keralites who remain in Yemen," he said.

"Today the points of exit in Yemen are Sana'a airport and three ports and the embassy has informed Keralites who are working in the interior parts to make arrangements to reach these places of exit."

"The biggest advantage is that both -- the Saudi authorities and the rebel forces -- there are showing consideration to our people and it is only with the help of these people that they can arrive at the places of exit," said Joseph.

The minister said due to operational issues, at times the flights that land in Mumbai do have a large number of Keralites.

"Yesterday (Tuesday) there were 300 Keralites waiting at the Mumbai airport who arrived from Yemen for their onward journey to Kerala. Due to constraints of seats, 66 of them were put on various flights that left for Kerala airport today."

"A total of 116 of them were put on two air conditioned coaches of a train, bound for Kerala. The rest of them are refusing to go to the Kerala House there and are protesting."

"See, we are doing our level best, tomorrow we have decided to hire a chartered flight to bring them and those who are arriving later in the day," added Joseph.

He said the government is sympathetic to the requests made by these people. But even after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy spoke to two central ministers to ensure that Mumbai bound flights are also sent to Kochi, at times it doesn't happen

"The train that left today had 150 seats, but only 116 of them opted to travel on the train," said Joseph.

India brings back 1,000 home from Yemen, evacuation ending -

New Delhi: India readied to wind up its massive evacuation operations in Yemen as 1,000 of its nationals were being flown home on Tuesday night. India also helped pull out 232 people from 26 countries from the strife-torn Gulf nation.

In a series of tweets, external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin announced: "We will end our air evacuation efforts from Sana'a tomorrow, 8th April. All who want to avail should leave tomorrow."

In more tweets, he announced: "A thousand coming back tonight to India, if all goes well. 5 flights planned from Djibouti to India carrying those evacuated from Yemen."

"232 persons from 26 countries evacuated by India from Yemen. Efforts continuing."

Evacuation efforts in Sana'a were successful with three Air India flights taking off from the Yemeni capital with 600 passengers.

The spokesperson also retweeted German envoy Michael Steiner's 'thank you' tweet: "India helped evacuate also Germans out of Yemen. Thank you India!"

He also said India has accepted "Pakistan's offer to fly back from Karachi by special plane 11 Indians evacuated by Pakistani naval ship from Yemen".

Rs.60 test detects early-stage prostate cancer

WASHINGTON: A test that costs less than $1 (Rs.60) and yields results in minutes is more sensitive and exact than the current standard test for early-stage prostate cancer, US-based researchers say.   The simple test, developed by University of Central Florida scientist Qun "Treen" Huo, holds promise of early detection of one of the deadliest cancers among men.   It would also reduce the number of unnecessary and invasive biopsies stemming from the less precise prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test that is now being used.   "It is a simple test. It is much better than the test we have right now, which is the PSA and it is cost-effective," said co-author Inoel Rivera, urologic oncologist at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.   When a cancerous tumour begins to develop, the body mobilises to produce antibodies.   Huo's test detects that immune response using gold nanoparticles about 10,000 times smaller than a freckle. Gold nanoparticles are known for their extraordinary efficiency at absorbing and scattering light.   When a few drops of blood serum from a finger prick are mixed with the gold nanoparticles, certain cancer biomarkers cling to the surface of the tiny particles, increasing their size and causing them to clump together.   Huo and her team developed a technique known as nanoparticle-enabled dynamic light scattering assay (NanoDLSay) to measure the size of the particles by analyzing the light they throw off.   That size reveals whether a patient has prostate cancer and how advanced it may be.   Although it uses gold, the test is cheap. A small bottle of nanoparticles suspended in water costs about $250 (Rs.15,000) and contains enough for about 2,500 tests.   "Because it is low-cost, we are hoping most people can have this test in their doctor's office. If we can catch this cancer in its early stages, the impact is going to be big," the authors noted.   After lung cancer, prostate cancer is the second-leading killer cancer among men.The results of the pilot studies were published in journal ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces.

Foeticide: Indian American woman jailed for 20 years

Washington: An Indian American woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following her conviction last month for of female foeticide.

A judge in South Bend, Indiana, announced the sentence on Monday, Public Radio International (PRI) online reported.

Purvi Patel, 33, comes from a family of Indian immigrants who settled in Granger, Indiana, a suburb of South Bend.

In July 2013, she showed up at the emergency room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Centre in the town of Mishawaka, bleeding heavily. Doctors quickly realised she'd lost a pregnancy and she confessed that she'd left the foetus in a dumpster outside Moe's Southwest Grill in Granger, a restaurant Patel's parents owned.

Police questioned Patel and searched her cellphone while she was in the hospital, which led them to a series of text messages the prosecution claimed made the case for Patel's illegal abortion and felony charges.

The prosecution claimed Patel, in those text messages, admitted to ordering drugs online to terminate an unexpected pregnancy.

Patel allegedly ordered abortion-inducing drugs from Hong Kong, which caused her to have the child on the floor of her bathroom.

Patel is the first woman convicted of foeticide in Indiana, and only the second to be charged.

Chinese immigrant Bei Bei Shuai faced foeticide charges two years ago in the state, and both cases highlight an emerging 'gray area' for pregnant women within the US legal system.

At the sentencing, Patel's supporters wore purple and white and were joined by members of the 'Indiana Religious Coalition for Reproductive Freedom and Apna Ghar', a Chicago-based group advocating Southeast Asian women's rights. Patel's defence is expected to file an appeal.

At least 54 dead in trawler sinking off Russia's far east: media

At least 54 people have died and 15 are missing after a Russian trawler sank late on Wednesday in the Western Pacific Ocean near the Kamchatka Peninsula, an officer at a maritime rescue coordination centre in the area said.

Viktor Klepikov, coordinating captain of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky maritime rescue coordination centre, told Reuters that there were 132 people on board the Dalniy Vostok freezer trawler. He said 63 people had been rescued.

The ship was carrying 78 Russian nationals, as well as 54 foreign nationals from Myanmar, Ukraine, Lithuania and Vanuatu, the news agency said.

The trawler wrecked in the Sea of Okhotsk, 330 km west of Krutogorovsky settlement in the Kamchatka region and 250 km south of the city of Magadan.

The home port of the trawler, which was owned by Magellan LLC, was Nevelsk in Russia's Sakhalin region, TASS said.

IAF plane carrying 168 Indian nationals lands in Kochi

Kochi: An IAF plane carrying 168 Indian nationals evacuated from Yemen landed here tonight in the government's first major mission to rescue Indians stranded in the strife-torn nation.

The Indian nationals, including nurses and workers, among others, reached home by the special flight--Indian Air Force's
C17 Globemasters-- bringing an end to their about a week-long ordeal.

The flight landed at 2 AM.

The evacuees were welcomed at the airport by Kerala Minister for Diaspora K C Joseph, PWD Minister Ibrahim Kunju
and Ernakulam District Collector M G Rajamanikyam.

They were part of as many as 350 Indians who yesterday reached at Djibouti after being evacuated on a Navy vessel
from Aden, the seaport city of Yemen.

Parents of Jincy and Tincy, two nurses working with government hospitals in Yemen, are concerned about their elder
daughter whose flight from Sana'a was cancelled even after a boarding pass was issued.

Talking to PTI from Kochi airport, mother of the nurses, Omana, hailing from Vadakkancherry of Palakkad district, said
only Jincy, working in Aden, could reach home safely.

'We are happy that our daughter Jincy is coming back on the special flight. But we are concerned about the safety our
elder daughter Tincy who is in Sana'a. We hoped that she would also be reaching safely tonight.

'Jincy could not come as the flight did not take off because of the last minute developments at Sana'a airport,'
said Omana who came to the airport along with her husband Soman to receive their daughters.

A Kerala government official said the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (Norka) cell would give Rs 2000 each to the
people who returned from Yemen at the airport besides providing them free transportation facilities to reach home.

A spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry has said of 350 evacuees, 206 belong to Kerala, 40 are from Tamil Nadu,
31 from Maharashtra, 23 from West Bengal and 22 from Delhi besides other states.

The Indians were evacuated late on Monday night by INS Sumitra, which was diverted from its anti-piracy patrol in the
region. It waited for hours to get local clearances as heavy fighting was reported in the city. PTI

ന്യൂഡല്‍ഹി: കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ സ്വര്‍ണത്തിന്റെയും വെള്ളിയുടെയും ഇറക്കുമതി താരിഫ് മൂല്യം വര്‍ധിപ്പിച്ചു. 10 ഗ്രാം സ്വര്‍ണത്തിന് 385 ഡോളര്‍, ഒരു കിലോ വെള്ളിക്ക് 543 ഡോളര്‍ എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് താരിഫ് മൂല്യം കൂട്ടിയത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസംവരെ ഇത് യഥാക്രമം 375 ഡോളര്‍, 512 ഡോളര്‍ എന്നിങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു. ആഗോള വിപണിയിലെ സാഹചര്യം കണക്കിലെടുത്താണ് മൂല്യത്തില്‍ വര്‍ധനവരുത്തിയത്.

കസ്റ്റംസ് ഡ്യൂട്ടി തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നതിന് നിശ്ചിയിക്കുന്ന അടിസ്ഥാന വിലയാണ് ഇറക്കുമതി താരിഫ് മൂല്യം. ഊഹക്കച്ചവടം തടയുന്നതിന് രണ്ടാഴ്ചകൂടുമ്പോള്‍ ആഗോള വിപണിയിലെ വിലനിലവാരം അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി വിലനിലവാരം പുതുക്കാറുണ്ട്. പെട്രോളിയം കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ രാജ്യത്ത് ഏറ്റവും അധികം ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഉത്പന്നമാണ് സ്വര്‍ണം.

മോസ്‌കോ: പടിഞ്ഞാറന്‍ പസഫിക് സമുദ്രത്തില്‍ കാംചട്ക ഉപദ്വീപിന് സമീപം റഷ്യന്‍ മത്സ്യബന്ധനബോട്ട് മുങ്ങി 54 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചു. ബോട്ടില്‍ 132 പേരാണ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. അവരില്‍ 63 പേരെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തിയതായി റഷ്യന്‍ വാര്‍ത്താ ഏജന്‍സി അറിയിച്ചു. 15 പേരെ ഇനിയും കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടില്ല.

ബോട്ടിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന 78 പേര്‍ റഷ്യക്കാരാണ്. മ്യാന്‍മര്‍, യുക്രെയിന്‍, ലിത്വാനിയ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള വിദേശ പൗരന്മാരാണ് ബാക്കിയുള്ള 54 പേര്‍.

കംചട്ക മേഖലയിലെ ക്രുട്ടോഗോര്‍വോസ്‌കി അധിവാസപ്രദേശത്തു നിന്നും 330 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ പടിഞ്ഞാറും മഗാഡന്‍ നഗരത്തില്‍ നിന്നും 250 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ തെക്കുമായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പസഫിക്കിലെ ഓഘോട്‌സ്‌ക് കടലിലാണ് മത്സ്യ ബന്ധനബോട്ട് മറിഞ്ഞത്. മഞ്ഞുകട്ടകള്‍ ബോട്ടില്‍ തുളച്ചുകയറിയതാണ് ബോട്ട് മറിയാനുള്ള കാരണമെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക വിവരം.

ന്യൂഡല്‍ഹി: കലാപഭൂമിയായ യെമനില്‍ നിന്നും 358 ഇന്ത്യക്കാരുമായി രണ്ട് വ്യോമസേനാ വിമാനങ്ങള്‍ തിരിച്ചെത്തി.

168 പേരുമായി യെമന്റെ അയല്‍രാജ്യമായി ജിബൂട്ടിയില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട ഗ്ലോബ്മാസ്റ്റര്‍ വിമാനം പുലര്‍ച്ചെ 1.40 ന് നെടുമ്പാശ്ശേരി വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലെത്തി. 190 പേരുമായി യാത്ര തിരിച്ച രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഗ്ലോബ്മാസ്റ്റര്‍ സി 17 വിമാനം വ്യാഴാഴ്ച പുലര്‍ച്ചെ 3.30ന് മുംബൈ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലുമെത്തി.

ഇന്ത്യന്‍ നാവിക വ്യോമസേനകളുടെ സഹായത്തോടെ യെമനില്‍ കുടുങ്ങിയ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള ദൗത്യത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കുന്നത് വിദേശകാര്യ സഹമന്ത്രി വി.കെ സിങാണ്. യെമനിലെ ഏദനില്‍ നിന്ന് കടല്‍മാര്‍ഗ്ഗം ജിബൂട്ടിയിലെത്തിച്ചശേഷമാണ് ഇവരെ വിമാനമാര്‍ഗ്ഗം ഇന്ത്യയിലെത്തിച്ചത്.

ഇന്ത്യയിലെത്തിച്ചവരില്‍ 206 പേരും മലയാളികളാണ്. 40 തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടുകാര്‍, 31 മഹാരാഷ്ട്രക്കാര്‍, 23 പശ്ചിമബംഗാളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ളവര്‍ 22 ഡല്‍ഹി നിവാസികള്‍ 15 കര്‍ണാടകക്കാര്‍, 13 ആന്ധ്രാ-തെലുങ്കാനയില്‍ നിന്നുള്ളവര്‍ എന്നിവരാണ് തിരിച്ചെത്തിയ മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍.

രാജ്യത്തെ വിവിധ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള 350 പേരാണ് യെമനില്‍ നിന്ന് ഇപ്പോള്‍ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. തമിഴ്‌നാട്40, മഹാരാഷ്ട്ര31, പശ്ചിമബംഗാള്‍23, ഡല്‍ഹി22, കര്‍ണ്ണാടക15, ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശ്‌തെലങ്കാന13 എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് യെമനില്‍ നിന്ന് മടങ്ങിയ മറ്റ് സംസ്ഥാനക്കാരുടെ എണ്ണം.

മടങ്ങിയെത്തിവരെ മന്ത്രിമാരും കളക്ടറും ചേര്‍ന്ന് സ്വീകരിച്ചു

നെടുമ്പാശ്ശേരി: മലയാളികളും തമിഴരും ഉള്‍പ്പെട്ട സംഘത്തെ മന്ത്രിമാരായ കെ.സി. ജോസഫ്, വി.കെ. ഇബ്രാഹിം കുഞ്ഞ്, ജില്ലാ കളക്ടര്‍ എം.ജി. രാജമാണിക്യം, അന്‍വര്‍ സാദത്ത് എം.എല്‍.എ. എന്നിവര്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് സ്വീകരിച്ചു.
മടങ്ങിയെത്തിയവരെ നാട്ടിലെത്തിക്കുന്നതിനായി പ്രത്യേകം വാഹനസൗകര്യം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു. രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടെത്തിയവര്‍ക്കായി തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തേക്കും കോഴിക്കോട്ടേക്കും കെ.എസ്.ആര്‍.ടി.സി. സൗജന്യ സര്‍വീസ് നടത്തി. കൂടാതെ പത്ത് മിനി ബസ്സുകളും സൗജന്യമായി ഇവരെ ലക്ഷ്യസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തിച്ചു.

മടങ്ങിയെത്തിയവര്‍ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ സൗകര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുക്കുന്നതിനും അവരുടെ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നതിനും വിമാനത്താവളത്തില്‍ നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സ് പ്രത്യേകം കൗണ്ടര്‍ തുറന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സ് സി.ഇ.ഒ ആര്‍.എസ്. കണ്ണനും മടങ്ങിയെത്തിവര്‍ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ സൗകര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുക്കുന്നതിന് വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലെത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഓരോരുത്തര്‍ക്കും വഴിച്ചെലവിനായി നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സ് രണ്ടായിരം രൂപ വീതം നല്‍കി.

കൊച്ചിയില്‍ വന്നിറങ്ങിയ തമിഴ്‌നാട് സ്വദേശികള്‍ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കുന്നതിനായി തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടില്‍ നിന്ന് പ്രോട്ടോക്കോള്‍ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും വിമാനത്താവളത്തില്‍ എത്തിയിരുന്നു.

ഇവരെ നാട്ടിലെത്തിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള െചലവ് നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സാണ് വഹിച്ചത്. തമിഴ്‌നാട് ചീഫ് സെക്രട്ടറി ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടതനുസരിച്ചതാണിത്. നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സിന് ഈ തുക മടക്കിനല്‍കാമെന്ന വ്യവസ്ഥയിലാണ് ഈ ക്രമീകരണം നടത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.

ആകെ 206 മലയാളികളാണ് യെമനില്‍ നിന്ന് മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നത്. ഇവരെ രണ്ട് വിമാനത്തിലാണ് കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നത്. കുറച്ചുപേര്‍ മുംബൈ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലാണ് വന്നിറങ്ങിയത്. ഇവരെ കേരള ഹൗസില്‍ താമസിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. വിമാന ടിക്കറ്റ് ലഭ്യമാകുന്ന മുറയ്ക്ക് ഇവരെ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ െചലവില്‍ നാട്ടിലെത്തിക്കുമെന്ന് നോര്‍ക്ക റൂട്ട്‌സ് സി.ഇ.ഒ. അറിയിച്ചു.

യെമനില്‍ നിന്ന് കപ്പല്‍മാര്‍ഗം ജിബൂട്ടിയിലെത്തിച്ച ശേഷമാണ് ഇവരെ വിമാനത്തില്‍ നാട്ടിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നത്.
ജിബൂട്ടിയിലെത്തിയ വിദേശ സഹമന്ത്രി വി.കെ. സിങ്ങിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ ഒഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാത്രി എട്ടരയോടെ യെമനില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള സംഘം കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തുമെന്നാണ് ആദ്യം അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഇതനുസരിച്ച് പലരുടേയും വീട്ടുകാര്‍ എട്ടുമണിയോടെ തന്നെ വിമാനത്താവളത്തില്‍ എത്തിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ വേണ്ടപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ കൊച്ചിയിലാണോ മുംബൈയിലാണോ ഇറങ്ങുന്നതെന്ന ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലുമായിരുന്നു പലരും.

മടങ്ങിയെത്തിയ മലയാളികളില്‍ ഇരുപതോളം നഴ്‌സുമാരുള്‍പ്പെടെ വിവിധ തൊഴില്‍ മേഖലയില്‍ നിന്നുള്ളവര്‍ അടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇതില്‍ പലരുടേയും പാസ്‌പോര്‍ട്ടുള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവ കമ്പനി അധികൃതര്‍ പിടിച്ചുവച്ചാണ് വിട്ടയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ യാത്രാരേഖകള്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടാണ് പലരും എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ശമ്പള കുടിശ്ശിക ലഭിക്കാത്തവരും ഇക്കൂട്ടത്തിലുണ്ട്.
